where parents of kids with special needs connect

My middle son was suspended from school today. Now I find this ironic because the child who he was fighting with him today, has been picking on him for weeks. School staff have been aware of the situation and little if anything has happened. Now the principal calls me today and tells me she is suspending my fifth grader for two of the remaining five days of school for defending himself against this bully. Now I know what my child is capable of . I'm not a parent who can ever say "Not my child", because the fact is when you are dealing with children who are Bi-polar you truly do have a mixed bag. So I do believe that my son shoved that boy back. I do believe that he didn't back down. I do not advocate violence as a solution. I do advocate for the right of a child to defend himself. Other parents may disagree. I don't know. I feel for that other child's mom. No doubt she wants to believe in her child too. However when a child has his own icon on the principals desktop for getting into trouble, I'd have to say something is amiss. What do you think?

I think I know why I want to try homeschooling. : )

Doesn't sound fair to me, and I don't understand why the boys weren't brought in and the parents brought in and why it's just been "decided" that yor son is going to be suspended without any kind of discussion involving students, teachers, and parents. Was the other boy suspended too? Sorry you've got this headache so close to the end of the year...
