Laureen--- I can't even imagine TRIPLETS on the spectrum--- I'm COMPLETELY overwhelmed with TWINS on the spectrum-- how do you do it??

Just joined and looking forward to helping and being helped.  We have triplets, 2 boys and a girl, 11 years old and all on the spectrum.  The boys have Pdd-Nos and Aspergers.  My daughter has classic Autism.  One of the boys has a hearing loss too.  We also have an older daughter who is 15 who doesn't have it.

Hello I'm a mom of a son that has autism.  Av's is 8 years old and is currently homeschooled.  He recieves speech, OT and ABA weekly.  He has come along way as far as his progress, with learning sight words and reading mini books.  I'm very proud of him.  I learn that nothing come easy, you have to work for everything and each day is a new and surprising adventure.  It's also nice to know you are not alone.

Staying so HOPEFUL always!

Hi, My name is Kimberly and I have an Autistic soon to be 7yr old big boy.(lol)  We received his diagnosis when he was around 2 1/2 -3, but we knew just after his second birthday that something was wrong.  He met all of his major mildstones and once he hit two, they all regressed.  He's never been potty trained and this is something we are still struggling with and his language is more of jargon than anything else. He has progressed with language enough to repeat or say certain things.  I'm always looking for someone to talk to or who can relate to my difficulties. I am proud of him and he has the best little sister who has taken the role of being the bigger sibling..They're both a Blessing and a loving reminder of their father whom we lost.  I wish you all much success with your loved ones.  Thanks. Kimberly.

Hello,  My name is Sherry and my daughter Emily is 7.  Emily's diagnosis is PDD/NOS.  To me that is just a bunch of letters that doesn't tell the story of Emily.  She is an only child who is smart to me in her creativity and artistic side.  Like most children she can learn it just takes more time and practice, so I must be patient with her.  She has a way of getting through all the crap that adults get lost in and gets right to the point and an answer.  She wants to be a doctor/vet/actor/astraunaut, etc. etc. etc.  She has good days and bad days like most of us.  She's not at the bottom and she's not super smart - She's like most children, somewhere in the middle.  I have known, like many mothers that Emily looked at life through different eyes.  So this journey many times is about me trying to learn how Emily works and not trying to make her fit into my little box of raising a child.  Sometimes I remember this and sometimes I have to be reminded.  Websites/blogs/friends, etc. help keep me on track.  That is why I signed up for this website.  Thanks!

Hi,

My daughter is 9 years old (4th grader) and has newly been diagnosed with autism. It appears she's on the high functioning end of the spectrum, but we're still assessing where abouts on it. Her diagnosis has been delayed because she was incorrectly identified with learning disabilities three years ago. It's been a long journey. Feeling very relieved that somebody finally agrees with me about her challenges - I've been saying something is deeply wrong since she was 3 - but I'm also very overwhelmed that the reality is finally here. I was directed to this site by the behavioral specialist we've been working with since November. I'm feeling the most urgent need right now is to get her IEP changed but I want an advocate with me at all meetings from here on out because I'm in over my head and dealing with a school district/elementary school and a teacher that hasn't been the most cooperative. Any suggestions?

I have a 7 year old son that has autism.  We have been on one heck of a journey together and I feel like I can share my story with others because it is getting easier.....can't believe I just said that.  He started Thereapies at 20 months old and continues to this day.  He is in a main stream 1st grade class with a shadow to help but what an amazing little boy I have been blessed with.  I hope to share my story with others and to help others in the path that we have followed.  Over 5 years of hard hard work, but I promise, it gets better, just take one day at a time!

I have an 11 year old with severe autim.  We were just diagnosed this past summer due to a host of other diagnoses and issues that she has... I am struggling with feeling so sad that so much time has passed that we could have been addressing this.  And honestly somewhat angry that as many Physicians as we have seen that NO ONE caught it :-(    I too am looking for support, and advice as we walk this journey together.
