where parents of kids with special needs connect
Hi,
My name is Jennifer and I am a mom of a 6 year old daughter and and 3 and half year old son.
Elias has been diagnosed, so far, with global developmental delays.
It's a really long story!!
Just wante dto hear from other weary (but hopeful) parents in the same boat!

I am new to this site too. My son is almost 4 and it took nearly 2 years to get a diagnosis of Autism for Asa. We've have been all over the state to several different doctors to get this diagnosis. Now we are scrambling wondering what we'll do when the time comes for him to start school. There aren't any centers for children with autism any where near our hometown. We may move if one can be found in an acceptable place that meets our expectations. If not, I guess homeschooling may be our only option. It is exhausting, because nothing is easy when it comes to a special needs child. He is the light of my life. Since he is my first and last child, I can give all I have to him.
Permalink Reply by Heather Amy Price on December 25, 2011 at 8:04pm Is GDD what they diagnose when they're not sure what else to say? I've heard that and if it's true it must be incredibly frustrating. Like--- he doesn't have autism, he doesn't have adhd, we've ruled out cerebral palsy....... let's call it GDD.
The story is long, but I'd love to hear it when you have tiem!
Weary but hopeful--- yes, that's me! Welcome!
Hi Newbie I am also new and just posted my story about my daughter. They also told me she is Globally Delayed in addition to PDD-NOS and Hypotonia but another Dr. said MR which I wouldn't allow be put down as a diagnosis because I didn't want it to follow her and she is too high functioning but apparently the legal MR definition is an individual who is 3-4 years behind cognitively which my daughter is.
I would love to hear your story. Mine is also very long but that's why we are here to share and get support.

What is MR and Hypotonia? I am just asking because my son was diagnosed with Autism but really no other conclusions were made. We had a difficult time just finding someone to diagnose his condition.

MR is Mental Retardation and Hypotonia means "low tone" or "floppy".....hyper flexible. My daughter has no assist and feels twice as heavy as my son who is taller and 20 pounds heavier than her. She runs with her arms extended behind her and is extremly knock-kneed almost tripping over her own feet. She doesn't pick up her feet when she walks and has a difficult time sitting up straight or posturing her self.
