And a howdy to you

Welcome!  My daughter has profound hearing loss, uses cochlear implants but not yet speaking.  She is 4.

#kswhite- we've been in speech therapy for about 3 years and its all a work in progress.  My son was born with hearing and after a lengthy illness, lost his hearing right at the most critical age of 2.  He was implanted at age 3 and it's taken us a long time to get speech production-his speech isn't normal to most kids, but it is for us so I'll take it!!

I agree - a work in progress!  Emma has been in speech therapy for 3 years now, too.  No real speech, but great understanding of what we say.  She also has cerebral palsy which is likely the reason for the delayed speech.  We are still hopeful it will come...and she is showing more signs of progress.  But, in the meantime, we are looking at AAC devices where she can use her eyes to "talk" with the computer.
