where parents of kids with special needs connect

Hi! My name is Paige. I am the single adoptive mom of an awesome little boy who just happens to have aspergers and adhd. Life is crazy busy and wonderful at the same time. My son has taught me many life lessons-he wakes up every morning happy and goes to bed every night happy! I love looking at the world through his eyes!

Hi Paige! Thanks for joining our group! Hope you find a lot of connection and support here.
Welcome to Hopeful Parents, Paige!

My son is 9 and he has an educational classification of Asperger's and it has been suggested he also has ADD w/o the H. It's definitely a different perspective. I like how you phrased that. lol

Diane.
Thanks for the welcome Diane!

Welcome Paige!
How old is your little boy?

My son was just diagnosed with PDD-NOS last November. He is 6yrs old and we are just starting public school this week.

It is refreshing to see your happy outlook during the struggles. =)
Thanks for saying hello Missy! My son turned eight in June. Starting 3rd grade next week! I try to keep a positive attitude at all times as hard as it may be. At the end of everyday I make it a point to remind myself of things that happenned that day that I can be grateful for.Our days are not always stellar and are often roller coaster rides but I can always find something to be thankful for -it could be something as simple as getting all green lights on the way to work therefore getting to work on time, lol, or something as huge as a child being kind to my son on the playground :)Life is what we make it-it's hard at times but we take things one day at a time. My son lives so much "in the moment" and it is kind of a nice way to live!Good luck with the new school year, and remember you are your son's biggest advocate-it can be a lot of work at times but it pays off!! I'd love to hear from you again!
I love this positive outlook. It is definitely one I am trying to be better at these days.
We had a rough week for the first week of school and I think tomorrow is only going to be more of the same.
Heres to better days ahead! The last half of my son's school year last year was rough -but we rode the waves and got through it -you will too! Today was my son's first day back to school -he had some anxiety this morning but he made it through the first day without too many bumps-although he did come home without his brand new lunchbox -he THINKS he may have left it on the bus...lol -right now one of the biggest challenges for him is peer relationships-he really struggles in this area -he comes across as very awkward and he really IS NOT the kid everyone is in competition to sit next to -if you know what I mean. As a mom that breaks my heart...he has a social worker at school that works with him on social skills and outside of school he sees a social worker for play therapy-social skills that come naturally to other children need to be taught step by step to my son. It's a lot of work on his part but hopefully it will pay off! Please keep me posted on the rest of the the school week my thoughts are with you both for better days ahead -they will come...
Hi Paige,
I just joined today. We were blessed with three girls through international adoption, and our youngest Ashley (age 9) is on the autism spectrum. One Psych says PDD-NOS, and another thinks more Asbergers. She also has ADHD and anxiety. Ashley is in a verbal behavior class in 3rd grade.

Nice to meet you!
Kim
Welcome Kim! Thanks for saying hello! Three girls-how awesome!
Paige
