Hopeful Parents Community

where parents of kids with special needs connect

Hello Everyone!

I'm a stay-at-home mom of two boys in the spectrum. My 15 yr old has Asperger's and my 11 yr old has PDD-NOS with limited verbal skills. I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 20 yrs and I really have to say he's wonderful. He's involved as much as he can be after working so many hours to support us.

I found this site through another blog and being starved for support I joined :)   Don't get me wrong our family and friends are very understanding (most of them) but they just don't know what it's like. Ya know what I mean?

I guess I'm here to get/give support, exchange ideas for therapies, get advice (mostly on how to handle school administrators) and laugh. Ohhh, definitely laugh. Reading stories of other's happy experiences sometimes helps me get through the day.

The timing for finding this site was perfect. My youngest is starting middle school this year and I just have a feeling it's going to be rough. New school, new para (he had his old one for 4 yrs), new teachers, changing classes every hour *sigh*.  I'm hoping that he'll surprise us and just get right into it. There have been times he's done that before.

Sorry for such a long introduction, lol. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome! You've found the right place to share your stories and get support (and a laugh or two!) I am a stay-at-home mom with three kids, my middle one is on the spectrum. You'll find lots of great people here who know exactly what you're going through.

Hi Jana.
My son with special needs is now 29 years old.
We took our son out of public school and enrolled him in the school for the blind until he was about 15. We've been through the stress of having him moved to a regular high school....among other things.
If you would like, you can look at my blog. I try to post about experiences that our family has had, in hopes of helping others.
I look forward to getting better acquainted!
